Job Description We are seeking an outstanding academic leader to join our School in the role of Deputy Head of School (Learning & Teaching). This is a key senior leadership position offering the opportunity to shape and embed high‑quality, evidence‑based learning and teaching that is engaging, contemporary and responsive to student and industry needs. The Deputy Head of School (Learning & Teaching) provides visionary, strategic leadership across the School’s learning and teaching portfolio. Working closely with the Head of School, the School Executive, the Dean (Learning & Teaching) and colleagues across the University, you will play a pivotal role in driving educational excellence and continuous improvement. You will lead the implementation of learning and teaching strategies that align with University and Group priorities, support accreditation and quality assurance requirements, and contribute directly to achieving institutional learning and teaching KPIs. In this role, you will: Provide strategic leadership for learning and teaching within the School, ensuring alignment with University priorities and sector best practice Embed evidence based approaches to teaching, learning and assessment that enhance student success, retention and satisfaction Lead and support Program Directors, providing guidance and oversight of learning and teaching responsibilities Build academic staff capability through mentoring, professional development and the promotion of innovative teaching practice Foster and support scholarship of learning and teaching, including dissemination and recognition of best practice Ensure learning and teaching approaches are flexible, inclusive and industry responsive, preparing graduates for evolving professional contexts Collaborate effectively across the University to support accreditation, course review, quality assurance and continuous improvement processes About you The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline. You will demonstrate: A strong academic profile with demonstrated leadership in learning and teaching at program or school level Deep understanding of contemporary higher education pedagogy, assessment design and quality assurance frameworks A proven ability to lead, inspire and support academic staff in diverse disciplinary contexts Experience supervising or supporting Program Directors or equivalent academic leadership roles A collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence, build relationships and drive change What we can offer The initial term will be for a period of three years with the possibility of renewal. This is a full-time position primarily based at Griffith University Gold Coast or Brisbane South (Nathan). As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations. Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples. The successful candidate will also be offered an underlying continuing appointment at Level D. The full-time equivalent base salary for an Associate Professor (Level D) is in the range $172,686 - $190,248 per annum + 17% superannuation. This is a specialist teaching-focused post, primarily centred on leading and delivering our apprenticeship work-based curriculum across Levels 4, 5 and 6 for both Quantity Surveying (QS) and Construction Management (CM) pathways. You will be the Module Leader for our work-based modules, these modules run alongside apprentices’ academic modules and are explicitly designed to help apprentices apply learning in the workplace, evidence Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs), and progress confidently towards gateway and End Point Assessment (EPA) / Apprenticeship Assessment (AA) readiness. The modules will support apprentices across the following standards delivered within our provision: Level 4: Construction Quantity Surveying Technician; Construction Site Supervisor Level 6: Chartered Surveyor (Quantity Surveying pathway); Construction Quantity Surveyor; Construction Site Manager Alongside your module leadership responsibilities, you will also hold a defined tripartite caseload as an Academic Liaison Tutor, supporting apprentices and employers through on-programme progress reviews (apprentice–employer–university) to monitor progress, agree actions, and ensure workplace activity aligns with module and programme requirements. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a fixed term contract between 9/26 – 5/29 or as agreed for the OTSO project. This position is based in the Human Sciences – Computing Interaction Research Group at the Department of Digital Humanities and relates to a long-standing interdisciplinary collaboration that studies the Finnic oral poetry system based on a large set of transcribed poems. The post-doctoral researcher will work in tight collaboration with people from computer science, linguistics and folkloristics to develop and apply capabilities for the large-scale modelling and analysis of the Finnic oral poetry system, based on a large set of transcribed poems. Depending on the background of the selected candidate, this may include, for example, the development of LLM and other machine-learning methods for the identification and extraction of higher-level signals (e.g. motifs, story schemas, naming formulas) from this multilingual corpus, the statistical modelling and large-scale analysis of said phenomena, or the development of mixed-method research pipelines. Requirements for the position and assessment of qualifications According to the Regulations of the University of Helsinki, an appointee to the position of postdoctoral researcher shall hold a doctoral degree and have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work as well as the teaching skills necessary for the position. For this position, the appointee must hold a doctoral degree in computer science, data science, digital humanities, statistics, or a related field, and have a keen interest in tackling complex problems in interdisciplinary collaboration. Previous experiences of such, as well as of working with large volumes of data (also in high-performance and GPU-accelerated computing environments) are considered advantages. Strong teamwork skills and an excellent command of written and spoken English are also required. A knowledge of Finnic languages is considered an advantage for the corpus work, but not a necessity. When assessing applicants’ qualifications, attention will be paid to international academic activities, including high-quality peer-reviewed publications. The position is filled with a six-month trial period. What we offer The salary for the position will be based on level 5 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The annual gross salary is €42,000 - €49,000. In Finnish universities, the teaching and research staff (app. 65% of total staff) have a special system regarding the free time equivalent to holiday.
