The Faculty of Educational Sciences invites applications for the position of ASSISTANT, ASSOCIATE OR FULL PROFESSOR OF BIOLOGY EDUCATION The appointee may be appointed to a fixed-term tenure-track assistant or associate professorship or permanent full professorship, depending on their qualifications and career stage. Job overview The duties of the position include leading research, developing research networks and engaging in international activities in the field, as well as providing teaching particularly in subject teacher training, the Study Track for Class Teachers and doctoral education. Biology is a natural science subject taught at comprehensive and general upper secondary school, designed to stimulate interest in biological and environmental sciences and support pupils’ and students’ scientific thinking. In primary school, biology is taught as part of environmental studies, and in lower secondary school and general upper secondary school as an independent subject. The position focuses on research and teaching in the biology education, including promotion of ecological sustainability and biodiversity perspectives in research and teaching. The appointee will be responsible for studies in the biology education, doctoral education in the field and research broadly related to the field. They will supervise theses and lead and develop research in the field in both national and international networks. A central element of the position involves collaboration with the University’s teacher training schools and subject faculties. The role includes administrative duties, and the appointee is also expected to contribute to public engagement. Qualification requirements and appointment criteria Associate and assistant professors within the tenure track system must hold an applicable doctoral degree and be capable of conducting independent scholarly work, alongside the requisite teaching skills. In addition, they must be capable and willing to promote their academic career through publications and other means, and develop teaching, learning and research in the field. The assessment of applicant qualifications considers not only research and teaching merits, but also success in securing external research funding and experience in domestic and international research projects. Permanent professors must hold an applicable doctoral degree and possess advanced academic qualifications, experience in leading scholarly research, and evidence of success in securing external research funding and international collaboration in their research field. Applicants are expected to have the ability to provide research-based teaching and supervise theses, as well as the motivation to develop teaching, learning and research in the field. The position also requires academic leadership skills. The assessment of applicant qualifications considers both scholarly and teaching-related qualifications.  Completed pedagogical studies for teachers (60 cr) or comparable studies outside Finland will be considered an advantage. Scholarly qualifications encompass relevant publications and other academically valuable research results, success in securing external research funding, international research experience, as well as academic responsibilities and elected positions, and international relations. Teaching qualifications encompass teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce learning material, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills and participation in training doctoral researchers. Class or subject teacher qualifications are considered an asset. Also considered are applicants’ leadership and interaction skills and their active contribution to the academic community and public engagement. In addition, the appointment committee will review applicants’ views on the development of research and teaching in the field. The assessment of shortlisted applicants will consider statements by external experts and interviews carried out by the appointment committee. Description The Deep Learning laboratory in the Division of Science, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research assistant to work on Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL). The successful applicants will lead the labs efforts in action-less design, continual learning, planning with world models, and contrastive RL. Our laboratory has expertise in deep learning, including deep reinforcement learning, large language models, and the theory of deep learning. The candidate will develop DRL algorithms for online and off-line tasks, for robotic applications and possibly for LLM reasoning applications in the future. The work will involve designing algorithms, running experiments on the HPC, analyzing the results and improving the algorithms. It will also involve extensive literature reviews. Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in computer science, have significant experience with deep learning with PyTorch, and have expertise in reinforcement learning. The applicant should have already completed several major projects in DRL. The applicant should also possess excellent mathematical and English skills. Description Political scientists at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) are looking to hire a full-time junior or assistant research Scientist – equivalent to a research assistant/associate at other institutions – to start in September 2026. The position entails data management, replication, and visualization as well as literature reviews and light text editing. There might be an opportunity for co-authorships for a qualified candidate. A successful candidate must have advanced data analysis skills in R and Stata, experience with data visualization in R, and GIS data work in R and/or ArcGIS. The candidate must be self-motivated, an independent thinker, fluent in English, and have well-developed writing skills.
