About Arak University
Arak University was originally founded in 1971 as The College of Marjan. The college was formed from the partnership of the University of Tehran and Tehran Tarbiat Moallem University. In 1989 the college was granted university status and became Arak University.
The university is located in Arak, the capital city of Markazi Province, Iran. Known as the country’s industrial capital, Arak is home to several industrial factories including those belonging to Machine Sazi Arak and the Iranian Aluminium Company. The city produces nearly half of Iran’s steel, aluminium, petrochemical products, vehicles, and heavy machinery.
The university is divided into six faculties and two schools, each of which offers both undergraduate and graduate courses. There is the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Faculty of Foreign Literature and Languages, and Faculty of Law and Economics. There is also the School of Art and School of Sports Sciences. Students have the choice of 28 different fields within these faculties and schools to focus their studies in.
Students number about 10,000 while the teaching body consists of 500 professors. A large proportion of the students are international owing to the university’s partnerships with foreign institutions. These relations were formed to exchange academic and scientific knowledge and to establish joint masters and PhD degrees.
Dedicated to global engagement, the university is constantly seeking new ways to sustain an eco-friendly environment. To do so, it relies on solar panels and wind turbines to supply the university’s electricity, as well as collaborating with the local water resources management.
