The Higher Educational School for Girls was founded in 1964 and began with just 90 students. It became a state-run university in 1976, with four faculties: basic sciences, literature and humanities, management and economics. Following the Islamic Revolution of Iran in 1979, it was renamed Alzahra University in honour of Fatimah Zahra, daughter of Mohammad (PBUH), the Holy Prophet of Islam. It is the only comprehensive women’s university in Iran and the Middle East, with the motto of “Learned woman, progressive society”. Students can choose from 51 undergraduate and 114 graduate programmes, with faculties including art, biological sciences, education and psychology, engineering and technology, literature and languages, mathematical sciences, physical education, physics and chemistry, social and economic sciences and theology. Located in Vanak, Tehran there are two campuses, the first in the centre of Tehran and the second in Urmia, a 55-minute domestic flight from Tehran. On-campus facilities include laboratories, professional workshops, theatres, a swimming pool, restaurants, gyms, banks, a post office and a kindergarten. It also has a Technology Incubator Centre to provide all the necessities for small companies and technological centres. Legal and professional aid is available to strengthen and guide these growing companies. All areas are covered, however there is a particular focus on nano technologies, bio-technology, art, IT, engineering and medical facilities and equipment. As a member of the International Association of Universities (IAU) and the Federation of Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW), Alzahra has established links with more than 45 higher education institutions in the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

Robotics is reshaping the future of engineering — and mechanical engineering is at the heart of this transformation. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, our researchers tackle some of the most complex challenges in intelligent systems, from precision manipulation and manufacturing automation to surgical assistance, space exploration, and operations in hazardous environments. In particular, the rapid growth of soft and intelligent robotics research is opening exciting new opportunities for innovation, impact, and real-world solutions. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hong Kong offers B.Eng., M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. programmes within one of the region’s most highly ranked engineering schools. With around 35 dedicated full-time faculty members and state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, the Department provides an inspiring environment where innovation thrives. Our research spans frontier areas such as advanced robotics, soft and flexible robot design, actuation, sensing and control, bio-inspired engineering, exoskeletons, biomimetic robots, and their applications in healthcare. The appointee is expected to conduct frontier research within the following areas: robotic intelligence, humanoid robotics, surgical robotics, bio-inspired robotics, wearable devices and robotics, soft robotics, autonomous vehicles, aerial robotics. They will also be responsible for delivering quality teaching in relevant subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in addition to the engagement in knowledge transfer activities and provision of administrative service to the University/Faculty/Department. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
