Al-Rafidain University College

Al-Rafidain University College is a private Iraqi educational institution.
Al-Rafidain University College has 13 medical, engineering and scientific departments from which it awards bachelor degrees. Students can also study subjects including computer and communications, law, pathology, business management, accounting and civil engineering.
Each course takes four years to complete and the academic year consists of two semesters. Degrees are all approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and other relevant ministries.
There are numerous facilities including 12 medical labs, 25 engineering labs, 60 classrooms and 40 lecture halls. There are also plenty of opportunities for students outside of academia, including artistic, cultural and literary activities, along with annual scientific conferences and numerous sporting activities to choose from. 
The university consists of three buildings. The main building is on Palestine Avenue in the Baghdad district, where you'll find the Deanship of the College and certain engineering and scientific departments including the communications engineering and computer technology engineering departments. There is a second building with further scientific departments on Banook Avenue and the building with the dental hospital is on Cairo Avenue.

	Lead the development, review and accreditation of Petroleum Engineering programmes to meet international academic and professional standards. 
	Supervise undergraduate projects, Honours, Master’s and PhD students while mentoring early-career academics and researchers. 
	Establish and lead internationally recognised research programmes that address challenges in the petroleum and energy sectors. 
	Publish high-quality research in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. 
	Secure competitive research grants, consultancy projects and industry-funded contracts. 
	Build multidisciplinary research teams and foster collaborations with national and international universities, research institutions and industry. 
	Develop strategic partnerships with oil and gas companies, government agencies, professional organisations and energy sector stakeholders. 
	Provide consultancy and technical leadership in Petroleum Engineering and related disciplines. 
	Contribute to university governance, academic planning, programme accreditation, quality assurance and strategic initiatives.

Applicants must possess;


	A PhD in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related discipline such as Reservoir Engineering, Drilling Engineering, Production Engineering, Petroleum Geoscience, Chemical Engineering (Petroleum), Mechanical Engineering (Energy Systems) or Energy Engineering from a recognised institution. 
	Membership of a recognised professional body such as the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) or an equivalent organisation. 
	An internationally recognised record of scholarly achievement appropriate for appointment to the rank of Professor. 
	A substantial publication record, including at least 15 scholarly publications and authorship or co-authorship of one or more academic books


Experience and Technical Expertise

The successful applicant should demonstrate:


	At least 15 years of university teaching, research and/or senior industry experience in the petroleum or energy sector. 
	A distinguished record of internationally recognised research with more than 15 indexed publications and with significant publications, citations and research impact. 
	Experience supervising postgraduate research students to successful completion. 
	A proven record of securing competitive research funding and leading major research projects. 
	Strong collaboration with industry, government and international research organisations. 
	Extensive experience with petroleum industry software such as Schlumberger Petrel, Eclipse, CMG, OFM and Pipesim. 
	Expertise in reservoir simulation, drilling engineering, well testing, production optimisation and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) systems. 
	Experience in curriculum development, programme accreditation and quality assurance within higher education. 
	Demonstrated leadership in multidisciplinary research, innovation and consultancy.

Conditions of Service


	Base Salary Range: Professor PGK95,366 – PGK116,558 per annum 
	Base IMA Range: PGK105,320 – PGK162,617 per annum 


IMA = International Market Allowance 

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience) 

The initial contract period is for three years. Benefits include a gratuity of 30% of salary in the first year, 35% in the second year, and 40% in the third year (paid on fortnightly basis), support for approved research, appointment and repatriation fares for yourself and dependents, book & equipment allowance of PGK750.00 per annum, settling-in/out allowance of PGK1,700.00 for single & PGK3,600.00 for accompanied plus PGK200.00 for each of two authorized dependent children (under 19 years) on appointment and repatriation, six weeks paid leave per year, recreation leave fares for yourself, spouse & two authorized dependents after 18 months of service and education fares and assistance towards school fees for authorized dependents are available. Staff members are also permitted to earn from consultancy up to 50% of their earnings annually. Consultancy projects need to be approved by the respective Head of School and the Vice Chancellor’s office. Furnished accommodation is provided on campus. All earnings in PNG attract income tax, the tax rates are progressive and the maximum rate is 40%.
