World University Rankings 2021 by subject: engineering

The engineering subject table uses the same trusted and rigorous performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.

It highlights the universities that are leading across the following disciplines: general engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, civil engineering and chemical engineering.

This year’s table includes 1,098 universities, up from 1,008 last year.

Harvard University tops the ranking for the first time, while the University of Oxford climbs three places to second. There are also two new entries in the top 10: the University of California, Berkeley is now ranked fifth (up from 14th) and Peking University is joint ninth (up from 13th), its highest performance since 2018.

As a result, the University of California, Los Angeles and Georgia Institute of Technology drop out of the top 10.

The highest ranked newcomer is Paris-Saclay University, which joins the ranking in the 126-150 band.
