Duties and Responsibilities The appointee will be responsible for the research and implementation of a large-scale mental health and well-being project for primary schools in Hong Kong under the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences. The appointee will develop and implement the technology strategy in alignment with research goals, define specifications and performance requirements with the research team, and stay abreast of the latest advancements in OLED display technology. He/she will oversee R&D activities related to OLED emitters and devices, providing technical guidance and leadership to optimize device performance and efficiency, as well as developing prototypes for wearable devices. In November 2024, the University of Hong Kong LKS Faculty of Medicine (HKUMed) was appointed as the operator of GBAICTI. In December 2025, the Real-World Study and Application Centre (RWSAC) was established under GBAICTI to open up local health and medical databases and promote collaboration between Hong Kong and other GBA cities. We are now seeking a high-calibre professional to join the RWSAC (located at Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone) as Data Scientist - Artificial Intelligence. Duties and Responsibilities Develop and apply advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning models to real-world data (RWD). Create innovative tools and solutions to extract deeper insights from RWD and enhance the centre’s analytical capabilities. Develop, validate, and deploy AI/ML models to support RWE generation. Leverage the RWSAC's AI facility to conduct large-scale analyses and build innovative tools derived from RWD to improve clinical practice and research. Stay abreast of the latest developments in AI/ML for healthcare and ensure methodologies are cutting-edge and scientifically sound. Ensure all AI models are developed with considerations for fairness, ethics, and transparency.  Requirements PhD degree or above preferably in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Information Systems, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in data engineering, data ops, or AI/ML data management, preferably in the medical and/or research sectors. Hands-on experience in building and maintaining production-grade datasets for AI/ML models. Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail. Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua) Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written test and/or an interview. About the Institute and the Master Programme The HKU Institute for Climate and Carbon Neutrality (ICCN) is a premier transdisciplinary research, educational, and stakeholder-engagement hub dedicated to inspiring solutions for climate change and leading the global transition to net zero. The Institute offers the Master of Climate Governance and Risk Management (MCGRM), a unique interdisciplinary taught postgraduate programme hosted by the Faculty of Social Sciences in partnership with the Faculties of Science, Engineering, Architecture, Law, and Business and Economics. The programme bridges scientific rigor with strategic corporate action, equipping aspiring leaders with high-level expertise in corporate sustainability, ESG compliance, climate finance, and nature-based solutions. A core pillar of the curriculum is Climate Practice—connecting academic theory with hands-on experiential learning, corporate decarbonization projects, and field-based risk assessment. Duties and Responsibilities The appointee will play a pivotal role in driving the practice-oriented and applied educational components of the MCGRM programme. Key responsibilities include: Practice-oriented Teaching: Delivering dynamic, high-quality lectures, practitioner workshops, and intensive career-oriented training modules across core areas such as corporate climate governance, ESG accounting, carbon footprint management, or green innovation. Capstone & Fieldwork Supervision: Overseeing student Capstone Projects and guiding teams through hands-on corporate advisory reports, real-world decarbonization strategies, and global fieldwork investigations. Practitioner Mentorship: Bridging the gap between classroom theory and industry execution by providing dedicated academic advising and career mentorship to emerging climate professionals. Industry & Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with corporate partners, public policymakers, and environmental NGOs to expand internship networks, facilitate practical case studies, and support ICCN public events such as Hong Kong Climate Week. Curriculum & Administration: Assisting teaching faculty with ongoing syllabus reviews, course administration, pedagogical design, and student admission evaluations. Qualifications and Requirements Applicants should possess the following attributes: Academic Background: Background in Climate Science, Environmental Economics, Corporate Governance, Sustainability / ESG Management, Environmental Law, or a closely related discipline. Professional Practice Experience: Demonstrated industry, clinical, or practitioner experience in ESG consulting, corporate sustainability leadership, climate risk analysis, green finance, or carbon asset management. Pedagogical Excellence: Proven experience and excellence in teaching, professional training, or executive facilitation, with a strong commitment to interactive, action-oriented pedagogy. Communication & Language Skills: Native or near-native English proficiency with exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in biological science, biomedical sciences, bioinformatics or related disciplines. They should be self-driven, highly motivated, creative with excellent communication skills in written and spoken English and Cantonese. Expertise and knowledge in bioinformatics, deep learning and/or biomedical image and clinical data analysis (e.g. Linux, R programming) is essential. The appointees will need to perform data analysis of single cell RNA-sequencing, transcriptomics data, Nanopore long read sequencing analysis and/or multimodality deep learning model development in different sarcomas. Publications in related fields will be a strong advantage. Opportunities for publication and independent development will be available. Additional basic laboratory skills in handling clinical samples (e.g. FFPE tissue, blood), preparation of samples for scRNA-seq and DNA/RNA extractions will be desirable.
