UNSW Rural Clinical Campuses UNSW Rural Clinical Campuses brings world-class medical education to rural and regional Australia, delivering the full 6-year medical course at our rural campuses across several locations. Face-to-face teaching is critical to rural program delivery as students build strong relationships with and benefit from more personal interaction with clinicians and other academics and become a part of the local medical community. UNSW’s program has strongly supported the aims of the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program for over 25-years, delivering excellence in rural medical education and student experience. UNSW rural clinical campuses are located on the unceded territory of the Wiradjuri (Albury, Wagga Wagga & Griffith), Birpai (Port Macquarie), Gumbaynggirr (Coffs Harbour) peoples. The Opportunity This unique leadership role will be responsible for providing senior academic and clinical leadership across the Rural Clinical Campuses (RCC) within the School of Clinical Medicine, providing strategic advice to the Faculty and University regarding Rural Health matters. The role focuses on delivering excellence and leadership with oversight of operations, stewardship and support of staff, medical education and research, ensuring operational optimisation, quality and developing strong relationships across rural campuses. The role supports the effective integration of clinical practice, education, research and innovation within the rural environment, and contributes to the University’s objectives in addressing health needs in rural and regional communities. The Head will have an informed understanding of the complexities, opportunities and partnerships within rural health systems, including Local Health Districts, hospitals and diverse clinical settings. The role works collaboratively with the Manager, Rural, RCC Directors of Medical Education (DoMEs) and other senior clinical / academic and professional staff at rural campuses, Local Health District executives and clinicians, community partners, School and Faculty leadership to support the effective delivery of rural medical education and healthcare research, staff capability and student experience. Clinically active in the rural healthcare environment, with an understanding and appreciation of the values and roles of a major university operating in a rural context and a strong understanding of rural and regional health systems particularly within Local Health Districts, hospitals and other clinical environments including community-based healthcare. Demonstrated appropriate leadership experience in clinical, academic and professional settings. Ability to work effectively and collegially with Campus DoME’s, School and Faculty leadership, health partners, students, staff and external stakeholders. Capacity to provide values-driven leadership focused on continuity, support and delivery during a transition period. The ability to manage budgets effectively and according to school and faculty strategic priorities. Level E (in addition to the above) An established profile as a senior academic and clinical leader with sustained impact across education, research and health systems, including leadership at School, Faculty or University level. Demonstrated experience overseeing significant and complex budgets, including responsibility for strategic resource allocation, financial sustainability and stewardship aligned with institutional priorities. Post-doctoral Fellow (Youth Mental Health and Mood Disorders)

About the role This position will undertake research using the Kids and Sibs study, a longitudinal investigation examining predictors of bipolar disorder development in a high-risk population with up to 15 years of follow-up. The study includes rich phenotypic data, as well as neuroimaging and blood biomarkers (including genetic data) on up to 440 individuals, with varying lengths of follow up (PI Mitchell). The data are aligned with an international dataset (across four US Universities) ensuring opportunities for robust replication. We also encourage applicants with broad interests in neuroscience and epidemiology relating skills, as additional research opportunities are available using linked data research, and intervention development/evaluation (PI Ratheesh). Applicants with prior research expertise relating to bipolar disorder or depression are especially encouraged. The position is part funded by the Centre for Research Excellence in Bipolar Disorder (https://www.corebd.com.au/). Key skills and experience required: Level A A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience. An understanding of youth mental health, mood disorders, prevention and prediction that supports such data analyses. Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments. Competitive Remuneration Package Full time role (35 hours per week) The Executive Director, Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre will lead one of UNSW’s most significant research infrastructure platforms through its next phase of growth, impact and service excellence. MWAC is a nationally recognised centre delivering a comprehensive suite of core research facilities across science, engineering, medicine and biomedical research, supporting UNSW faculties, external users, industry and national research collaborations. This is a major leadership role within the Pro-vice Chancellor of Research Infrastructure portfolio with responsibility for a highly complex, centralised research infrastructure environment comprising 25 laboratories, ~140 staff including eight Senior Directors. The Executive Director will provide strategic direction, operational leadership and future capability planning across advanced analytical platforms including clinical imaging, electron & light microscopies, X-ray, mass spectrometry, statistics and other related interdisciplinary technologies. Working closely with the Pro Vice-Chancellor Research Infrastructure and the MWAC senior leadership team, this role will shape the Centre’s strategy, strengthen service delivery, lead major infrastructure planning, support funding applications, build national and international partnerships, and ensure MWAC continues to enable world-class research and translation across UNSW.
