University life

Undergraduate and postgraduate courses are offered for some 26,000 students. A proudly multicultural university since establishment, Flinders’ 5,400 international students come from more than 90 countries, with main campus featuring on-site accommodation for 560 students and a highly acclaimed international student support centre.

Postgraduate study

For example, those who enrol in a Masters and do not complete it – but do complete the nested Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma – may exit with that qualification.

Would you like to make a real difference to the education of future doctors? Would you like to work in a founding member of the Russell Group Universities? We are looking to recruit a Teaching Fellow in Anatomical Sciences to join our committed and enthusiastic team of anatomists and technical staff in our goal to provide the highest quality student experience. This post is based at Southampton General Hospital in the Centre for Learning Anatomical Sciences (CLAS) which comprises a large Anatomical Sciences Laboratory. We are part of the School of Primary Care, Population Sciences and Medical Education in the Faculty of Medicine and we have close interdisciplinary links with other members of the faculty and wider University.  The University of Southampton is a global centre for excellence in education and research and a founding member of the Russell Group. The Centre for Learning Anatomical Sciences (CLAS) is part of the larger Medical Education group within the Faculty of Medicine and we benefit from a resource-rich creative environment and the close proximity of our clinical colleagues. Our principal role is to develop and deliver human anatomy teaching and learning for undergraduates. Teaching areas include gross anatomy, microanatomy, developmental anatomy and neuroanatomy. Members of academic staff also have curriculum management and development roles in the Faculty and wider University. Anatomy is taught through prosected specimens which we create in house through the generous donation of members of the public. Our catchment area for donations is the South East of England. Central to our method of delivery is a student-centred approach providing students with a resource-rich environment in which to study. Students undertake a range of activities using high quality bespoke prosected specimens, plastinated and museum specimens, plastic models, bones, imaging material and eLearning packages. Our team comprises the Director of the Centre, 1 Principal Teaching Fellow, 5 Teaching Fellows, Technical Manager and Deputy and 2 Anatomy Laboratory Technicians. Our work is supported by the CLAS administrator. The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of anatomy and its sub-disciplines, experience in demonstrating anatomy in practical classes and be enthusiastic and flexible in supporting staff in the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. We are looking for someone that is keen to participate fully in the intellectual and academic activities of a lively and committed department which values collegiality highly with the aim to deliver the highest quality student experience. We are seeking to appoint a Medical or Anatomy graduate. The successful candidate will ideally have had experience working within a human anatomy morbid facility. You will be an excellent team player and have a good understanding of the Human Tissue Act. Experience working in a medical school is desirable. Job Purpose The Research Fellow / Research Engineer (with focus on Healthcare Design and Business) will support applied research and innovation in community and allied health by translating health-related workflow needs, user insights and business requirements into practical service-design outputs, implementation plans, value propositions and evidence reports. The role focuses on healthcare design, business scoping, project coordination and implementation support for healthcare projects. This role is focused on Healthcare Design and Business. The candidate should have a deep understanding of health-related workflows and experience coordinating project implementation with clear outcomes delivered. The Research Fellow / Research Engineer will support academic staff and project leads, and contribute his/her assigned share to team-level KPI targets through practical design, business and implementation outputs. Key Responsibilities Applied Research & Development Perform clinical needs assessment, user research, service-journey mapping and workflow analysis for organisational innovation transition, focusing on but not limited to community and aged care settings, nursing homes, hospitals, home-based care and palliative care settings. Develop healthcare service-design concepts, business requirements and implementation roadmaps for organisational transition, focusing on but not limited to caregiver workload reduction, care-process redesign, adoption planning and care automation support. Support healthcare innovation projects by coordinating user feedback, pilot planning, implementation activities, data collection and outcome documentation for Proof of Concept (POC) and deployment in community-care or healthcare settings. Industry Collaboration Support collaborations with industry and healthcare partners to understand workflow pain points, user needs, business requirements and implementation constraints, and contribute to practical solution development. Assist in project scoping by gathering workflow, design, business and implementation inputs, and by identifying relevant capabilities within the ecosystem (IHLs, research centres, industry partners). Participate in industry meetings, discussions, and project engagements. Project Execution & Support Assist Professional Officers, faculty and project leads in planning, coordinating and executing assigned healthcare design, business and implementation workstreams, including timeline tracking, documentation and follow-up on deliverables linked to the committed KPI areas: service volume, innovation initiatives, value capture, manpower training and ecosystem establishment. Generate project reports, presentations, service maps, user-journey documentation, business-case inputs, implementation trackers and evidence documentation on the development, validation, deployment and value capture of healthcare solutions and applications. Contribute to grant proposals and project submissions where required. Track project progress and maintain proper documentation of milestones, deliverables, risks/issues, partner inputs, funding status and measurable outcomes for assigned projects. Job Requirements Bachelor's degree with 5+ years experience OR Master's degree with 2+ years experience in Health Sciences, Nursing, Healthcare Management, Design, Business, Service Design, Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Research or related disciplines with relevant experience in healthcare design, business scoping, project implementation or healthcare innovation related work.
