Times Higher Education (THE) is partnering with leadership development provider Common Purpose to develop a ground-breaking new accredited course for international high school counsellors.

The accredited course, to be offered free-of-charge to school counsellors, will leverage THE’s unique data and insights in global higher education and international students’ views. Common Purpose will add their expertise in course development and extensive global experience in developing leadership skills. Counsellors undertaking the course will be provided with a range of free resources developed by Common Purpose for use with students.

Patrick Hayes, THE’s Chief Development Officer, said:

“Our longstanding collaborators at Common Purpose are the natural partners for us to work with on this professional development course with their unparalleled reputation for developing innovative and respected leadership and employability courses for students and higher education professionals alike.”

Driving the course’s development will be THE’s newly formed International Schools Advisory Board, which features globally renowned high school counsellors working across four different continents.

THE and BMI are the market leaders in running workshops, networking events and forums for international school counsellors. Initial modules will be showcased at upcoming International Schools Forum & Workshops in Dubai, Sao Paulo and Hanoi.

The course will formally launch at the flagship BMI / THE Global International Schools Forum & Workshop in London on 15-16 May 2023 and online equivalent modules will also be available to maximise accessibility. The online platform will go live in autumn 2023, with the first accredited counsellors due to be announced by the end of the year.

Andy Coxall, CEO of Common Purpose Student Experiences, said:

We are delighted to be furthering our partnership with THE to work with them and BMI to support international school counsellors. These counsellors play a truly pivotal role in helping students make life changing decisions on their future studies and careers, and we can’t wait to play a part in their own journeys and development as practitioners.

“Bringing the best of our in-person and asynchronous programming, coupled with the deep knowledge and expertise of THE and BMI, and - so importantly - the counsellors themselves, this will be a truly transformational experience for all.”

Samir Zaveri, CEO and President of BMI said:

“The importance of university and college guidance counsellors is often overlooked by the international education sector. We aim to provide school counsellors with word-class personal development ensuring they give the best possible advice to their students as they make one of their most important life decisions – where to undertake their higher education studies.

“Our Advisory Board members have provided fantastic insight to ensure we develop the very best professional development sessions – which are completely free to all counsellors worldwide – and an accreditation programme that is truly relevant and valued by the international education sector.”
