Your personal sphere of play:

Your future position is at the Department for Slavic Studies, one of the world’s largest research and teaching centres for Slavic languages, literatures and cultures. The institute represents all East, South and West Slavic languages and literatures in teaching and research.

The vacant position is to be filled as soon as possible for a period of one year with the option to extend the employment relationship for an indefinite period.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:


	Establishment of a digital Slavic teaching and research platform that is located in the interdisciplinary field of didactics, linguistics, literature and cultural studies and whose goal is to develop digital didactic formats for learners to learn Slavic languages as a foreign and minority language.
	You will take on administrative tasks in research and teaching and are willing to take on functions within the framework of university self-administration.
	You publish internationally and give lectures.
	You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.
	You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
	You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.


This is part of your personality:


	Completed doctoral/PhD studies in Slavic Studies
	Excellent dissertation in the field of Slavic linguistics, literature and cultural studies or Slavic didactics
	Digital skills in research, teaching and administration (e.g. Office, Databases, Web design)
	Experience in university self-administration as well as in research management and in the management of project staff is desired
	Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in peer-relevant media
	Experience in research management and in leading project staff
	Didactic skills and experience in e-learning
	Very good knowledge of German and English as well as at least one Slavic language, both written and spoken

About the role:

The Faculty is seeking an academic with a recognised research track record and a demonstrated commitment to Indigenous research excellence. This is a significant academic leadership opportunity for an accomplished researcher and educator who is passionate about advancing Indigenous excellence, strengthening Indigenous research capability, and driving meaningful institutional transformation.

Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean Indigenous (ADI) will provide strategic leadership to advance Indigenous excellence, student success, research growth and community engagement across the Faculty. Working closely with the Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous and senior University leaders, the Associate Dean Indigenous will drive implementation of Indigenous strategic priorities while maintaining an active academic profile.

Key responsibilities:


	Lead and influence Indigenous research strategy and capability development across the Faculty.
	Maintain a strong and active research profile with high-quality publications, scholarly outputs and academic recognition
	Supervise and mentor Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates, with a particular focus on supporting Indigenous research students and emerging scholars.
	Foster interdisciplinary and community-led research partnerships that create meaningful outcomes for Indigenous peoples and communities.
	Develop and strengthen research collaborations across academia, industry, government and community sectors.
	Support the growth of competitive research funding opportunities and strategic research initiatives.


About you:


	A PhD in a relevant discipline.
	An established research profile with a publication records commensurate with appointment as Associate Professor or Professor.
	Demonstrated success in HDR supervision and research mentorship.
	Significant academic leadership experience across Indigenous learning and teaching, research, engagement and/or strategic initiatives.
	A strong understanding of contemporary Indigenous issues within higher education and the broader national context.
	A demonstrated commitment to Indigenous student success, Indigenous staff development and Indigenous research excellence.
	Previous experience as an Associate Dean Indigenous or in a comparable senior Indigenous leadership role will be advantageous.

Description

The Al-Sayegh Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Junior Research Scientist position. The laboratory investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying embryonic stem cell differentiation, with interests in stem cell biology, cellular differentiation, genomics, and integrated molecular approaches.

The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing stem cell and genomics research projects and will participate in experimental design, data generation, analysis, and interpretation. The Junior Research Scientist will work closely with the Principal Investigator and other members of the research team in developing and executing research projects.

Responsibilities will include conducting molecular and cell biology experiments, maintaining mammalian cell cultures, supporting stem cell differentiation experiments, collecting and analyzing experimental data, maintaining accurate laboratory records, and contributing to the preparation of scientific presentations and manuscripts. The successful candidate will also contribute to the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, including maintaining laboratory organization, monitoring supplies and inventory, coordinating laboratory orders, and supporting compliance with laboratory procedures and research protocols. 

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a closely related field. Previous research experience in molecular biology, cell biology, stem cell biology, or a related area is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a strong interest in scientific research. Experience with mammalian cell culture, molecular biology techniques, microscopy, quantitative data analysis, or computational analysis would be advantageous.

Applicants with less than five years of professional experience are encouraged to apply.
