With the typical university environment made up predominately of fee-paying students and a significantly smaller percentage of full-time employees, higher education institutions now have to consider this group as their customers and understand how they can best serve them.
Higher education institutions are often the gate keepers of huge volumes of data, ranging from student and staff data, to research data. Unfortunately, managing, accessing, sharing, and protecting this vast amount of data, and connecting the multiple siloed systems in which it is stored, presents a significant IT challenge.
As my previous blog highlighted, universities and colleges are facing significant cyber security challenges, in part due to the sheer volumes of personal data they process. Consequently, it’s vital they implement the stringent processes and policies needed to ensure they handle data securely and in compliance with GDPR.
