University of Sheffield - Somali outreach

An outreach project has been launched by the University of Sheffield to raise the educational aspirations of the city's Somali community. Run with partners including the Sheffield Somali Community Centre and Sheffield City Council, the scheme will offer study skills classes and mentoring. Margaret Mitchell, a widening-participation project manager at the university, said the pilot was "the beginning of something that can help a large number of Somali children and their parents to improve their chances of reaching higher education".
