University of Kent - Africa's literary gold

An awards ceremony known as the "African Booker" will take place at the University of Kent this month. The Caine Prize for African Writing will celebrate its tenth anniversary with a public event at the Canterbury campus on 13 October, chaired by Abdulrazak Gurnah, author of Booker Prize-shortlisted novel Paradise (1994), and professor of postcolonial literature at Kent. The prize is awarded for a short story by an African writer published in English.
