Based across King’s Denmark Hill, Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Waterloo campuses, our academic programme of teaching, research and clinical practice is embedded across five Departments About the role The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer is the operational and partnership lead for the Inkfish EMBRACE (Enhanced Maternal and Baby Results with AI-supported Care and Empowerment) programme, setting up and managing the operations across the multi-partner, multiple country consortium. The post holder is required to be a highly experienced, strategic leader with expertise in artificial intelligence in the context of personalised health. EMBRACE is a visionary, multicomponent international research programme, the first of its kind in the world, supported by Inkfish with £35M core funds over six years, starting in April 2025. It is a global study of 60,000 participants, including 20,000 mothers, 20,000 infants and up to 20,000 partners. It brings together world-leading clinician scientists across six distinguished Healthcare organisations, world-leading AI & technology companies, together with premier biotech companies, with the overarching aim to fast-track major scientific breakthroughs, revolutionise maternal and early childhood health through precision-personalised interventions, powered by a groundbreaking symbiosis of cutting-edge AI combined with human support. The post holder is responsible for establishing and managing the EMBRACE programme working closely with the study Director and lead PI, Professor Josip Car (King’s College London), Senior Advisors, other members of the research leadership team and Industry partner organisations. The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer will manage all parties within the global consortium and key stakeholders to set up and maintain an operational framework that meets the regulatory requirements of each partner country and organisation to meet EMBRACE’s ambitious goals. They will oversee day-to-day execution of decisions and contracts, including the oversight of the research teams and business operations. This includes the consortium’s financial management, project management – meeting key milestones, writing and presenting reports, establishing and overseeing the programme’s governance, ethical and regulatory compliance, and maintaining internal and external relationships including with industry partners, funders and collaborators. The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer will provide strategic leadership, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensure delivery of high-impact research outcomes. About us: This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and organised waste and resource professional to support Estates & Facilities (E&F) in delivering efficient, compliant, and sustainable waste practices. About the role: The Waste & Resource Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the effective management of waste and resources across King’s College London, including research and other hazardous or specialist waste streams. Sitting within the Sustainability Team in Estates & Facilities, this position is central to ensuring that King’s meets its legal obligations and ISO 14001 requirements while driving continual improvement in waste and resource practices. Reporting to the Sustainability Operations Manager, the postholder acts as the first point of contact for waste-related queries and provides operational advice to stakeholders across all campuses. You will maintain oversight of the waste budget, including forecasting, invoice validation, and reporting, ensuring cost-effective and transparent management of waste services. The role also involves maintaining accurate data inputs into a central Power BI system and interpreting complex datasets to inform decision-making and performance monitoring. Engagement and communication are key aspects of this role. You will attend regular user group and waste review meetings, deliver training tailored to different audiences, and collaborate on campaigns that promote best practice and behavioural change. The Waste & Resource Coordinator also represents King’s in sector networks, strengthening our profile and learning from industry developments. Compliance is a critical responsibility. The Role Two posts are available. One is funded by the European Research Council (ERC), to start in October 2026, for a period of 3 years. The other is funded by UK Research & Innovation (UKRI), to start in June 2026, for a period of 3 years. Successful candidates will join thriving research teams within the Institute for Computational Cosmology (ICC) at Durham. The ICC is a leading group in computational cosmology research, having previously played key roles in the development of simulation techniques for dark matter, dark energy and galaxy formation, and in the establishment of the Lambda cold dark matter (LCDM) model, and has continued to be at the forefront of cosmology research.
