About the opportunity Collective Excellence 2028 represents a significant evolution in how the University achieves its ambitions-shifting from multiple plans to one aligned strategy, from dispersed effort to targeted action, and from foundational work to measurable impact. Building on substantial groundwork already completed, this role will drive the next phase: embedding collaboration, elevating collective leadership capability, and creating sustainable forums and channels for joint achievement. As the Executive Program Director, Collective Excellence 2028, you will lead one of the University's most significant transformation agendas, spearheading a strategic portfolio of eight major university-wide initiatives designed to elevate education, research, and institutional performance. This senior leadership role will convene and facilitate cross-institutional collaboration, working through complex stakeholder landscapes to drive collective ownership and accountability for the CE28 portfolio. You will design and lead forums for co-creation, build collective leadership capability across faculties and Portfolios, and establish the governance mechanisms that enable-rather than constrain-collaborative achievement. Partnering closely with the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Provost Office, Education and Students, Research and Community and Leadership portfolios, faculties, University schools and the strategy portfolio you will bring deep expertise in large-scale transformation to guide decision-making and drive consistent, high-quality implementation. With a focus on measurable improvements in teaching quality, research performance, and student outcomes, your leadership will ensure transparent, on-time, on-budget delivery of the Collective Excellence 2028 initiatives alongside key leaders of the individual programs, helping shape the future of the University. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The Research Engineer (Modelling and Simulation) will support a one-year applied research project and evaluate a mobile DC microgrid for military tactical applications. The role involves developing detailed power system models in ETAP and MATLAB/Simulink, conducting performance and reliability simulations, and analysing the behaviour of solar PV, BESS, diesel generators, and DC distribution systems. The engineer will also document modelling assumptions, prepare technical reports, support procurement and project operations, and assist in supervising student researchers. This position is ideal for candidates with strong grounding in power system modelling, microgrid technologies, and simulation-based research. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with the PI, Co-PI, and team to design a robust mobile DC microgrid for military operations. Develop detailed simulation models simulation models in ETAP and MATLAB/Simulink for solar PV arrays, battery energy storage systems (BESS), vehicle-based deployable storage, diesel generator sets and rectifiers, DC distribution bus and electrical loads. Implement and carry out simulation studies to analyse system performance under various operating conditions such as extreme weather, load variation, equipment failure and deployment constraints. Perform load flow, transient stability, reliability, and efficiency studies to evaluate microgrid architecture options. Support the integration of various generation assets into a cohesive DC microgrid model. Document modelling assumptions, system parameters, simulation results, and engineering insights for final reporting. Prepare simulation diagrams, charts, and technical specifications for submission. Assist with procurement of software licences and technical equipment. Conduct Risk Assessments and ensure compliance with WSH regulations. Support supervision of capstone project students involved in the project. Work independently and collaboratively to maintain research software and project tools. To communicate and liaise with any internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related field from a recognised university. Knowledge and experience in modelling and simulation of microgrids or power systems using ETAP and/or MATLAB/Simulink. Experience in distributed energy resources (DERs), PV, BESS, diesel gensets, or DC microgrids is highly advantageous. Familiarity with energy management systems, microgrid control strategies, or predictive/dynamic control will be an advantage. Experience in conducting simulation studies, analysing results, and preparing technical reports. Commitment to supervising student projects and supporting hands-on training activities. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. Excellent technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

The Faculty of Humanities invites applications for the position of PROFESSOR OF RUSSIAN for a fixed-term appointment from 1 August 2026 to 31 December 2029. The position is based at the Department of Languages. The appointee’s duties include conducting and supervising research on the Russian language, delivering research-informed teaching, following developments in scholarship, and participating in public engagement and international collaboration in the field. The appointee will also contribute to a range of administrative and expert duties within the University community. JOB DESCRIPTION The position covers research on the Russian language and related teaching. The successful candidate is expected to be a scholar of the Russian language with an international profile and demonstrable capacity for research leadership. The role requires a versatile language scholar who, in addition to specialist expertise in Russian, possesses skills aligned with the University’s strategic plan and the focus areas of the Department of Languages. Research experience in other Slavic languages will be considered an asset. The professor of Russian will conduct and supervise scholarly research and deliver teaching across the bachelor’s and master’s programmes in languages and the Doctoral Programme in the Humanities. The appointee will be responsible, alongside other teachers in the discipline, for advanced teaching in Russian language and literature. They must be able to deliver teaching informed by their own research, supervise doctoral and other theses as well as postdoctoral researchers, head research projects, and follow developments in scholarship. The role also includes administrative duties and public engagement. In addition, the professor is expected to contribute to other teaching in the Master’s Programme in Languages and other degree programmes, including shared methodological and theoretical provision across study tracks. APPOINTMENT CRITERIA The appointee must hold a doctoral degree and possess advanced academic qualifications, experience in leading scholarly research, the ability to provide research-based teaching and supervise theses, and evidence of international collaboration in their research field. Additionally, professors must possess academic leadership skills. The assessment of applicant merits considers both scholarly and teaching merits. The former include scholarly publications and other research results of scholarly value, success in obtaining external research funding, scholarly work outside Finland and international elected positions. The latter include teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce learning materials, additional teaching merits, a demonstration of teaching skills if required, and involvement in doctoral education. Also considered are applicants’ leadership and interaction skills and their active engagement in the academic and wider communities. Holders of teaching and research positions at Finnish universities must be proficient in the language in which they provide instruction, in this case Russian. To successfully perform their duties, the appointee must also have excellent English skills. SALARY The salary will be based on levels 8–10 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The position carries an annual salary of €80,500–€99,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and includes a six-month trial period.
