Founded in 1938 by the Lebanese Maronite Order monks, Holy Spirit University Kaslik was the first university to be established by Lebanese citizens. It is a Catholic university. There are six schools within the university: the business school, school of architecture and design, school of engineering, school of law and political sciences, school of medicine and medical sciences, and the school of music and performing arts. There are also two faculties: pontifical faculty of theology and the faculty of arts and sciences, as well as the higher institute of nursing sciences, USEK continuing learning centre and the learning and teaching excellence centre. There are three regional university centres that the university has set up across Lebanon to provide higher education opportunities for students who would otherwise not have access to it. These centres are situated in Zahle, Rmeich and Chekka, enabling students to earn a degree within their communities. The university’s work is guided by four main principles: valuing community, intellectual curiosity, tradition and innovation, and high performance. The university’s motto is “when the Spirit of truth comes, he will lead you to the whole truth”. The university is located in Jounieh, a city just north of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. Jounieh was once a quiet fishing village but is now know for its bustling nightlife filled with crowded restaurants and bars.

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral Research Fellow position within the Astronautics Group, in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The post will work on a collaborative project involving industry and academia, funded substantially by the UK Space Agency. This is part of the UK Space Agency National Space Innovation Programme just announced by UKSA. The overall project is to develop a dual mode chemical-electric space propulsion system, using water as the propellant. Through electrolysis of water oxygen and hydrogen are produced, which can both be burnt in a chemical thruster, but also used as a propellant within a Hall Effect ion thruster. The project involves companies Protolaunch (chemical thruster) and Naicker Scientific (electrolyser), with University of Southampton working on the development of a Hall thruster operating on oxygen. Specifically the Research Fellow position will involve the design, manufacture and testing of a Hall ion thruster operating on oxygen. This will be based upon our World leading expertise in the development of Hall thruster technology specifically operating on alternative propellants, as described in other publications (doi: 10.1016/j.actaastro.2023.07.047, and 10.1016/j.actaastro.2023.01.033). The research will make use of our identified methods to adjust Hall thruster designs for operation with alternative propellants, that we have applied to Hall thrusters operating on magnesium to nitrogen.  You will join a team of eight researchers working on different aspects of space propulsion, as part of our team working in the David Fearn Electric Propulsion Lab at the University of Southampton. It will be expected that the researcher actively engages with industry involved, and with the research team, with opportunities to travel to conferences during the project duration. It is desirable that the person has experience in designing and testing ion thruster technology, or a demonstrated aptitude for learning new fields of research. The person should have a PhD, or equivalent qualifications and experience, in aerospace engineering, experimental beam physics, or other ion beam uses. It is desirable that the person has experience of operating large vacuum chamber facilities, and a strong aptitude towards experimental testing. Faculty Openings in the Accountancy Programme The Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Accountancy was one of the first three programmes conferred by SIT. The programme is accredited by Singapore’s national accountancy body, the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA), as well as several leading global accountancy professional bodies, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Uniquely, the programme is also recognised under the University Affiliation Programme by the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute. This three-year direct honours degree was developed through extensive consultations with industry leaders and accreditation bodies. Learners may choose to specialise in one of five accountancy domains: Applied Finance, Audit, Corporate Accounting, Management Accounting, and Taxation. Research Context & Project Background The Department of Orthopaedics of Traumatology, School of Clinical of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and talented Post-doctoral Fellow to join our multidisciplinary research team focusing on the molecular mechanisms of musculoskeletal diseases, including intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) and rare bone diseases like Pseudoachondroplasia (PSACH). Given that skeletal disorders often involve complex "ER storage" pathologies and genetic mutations, our research aims to bridge the gap between clinical observation and molecular therapy. The successful candidate will leverage the unique clinical resources of the Greater Bay Area and the advanced research facilities at the University to develop innovative treatments. Duties and Responsibilities Design and conduct experiments involving molecular biology, genetics, and gene editing (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9) to model orthopedic pathologies. Manage and perform functional studies using animal models (e.g., transgenic mice) to evaluate disease progression and therapeutic efficacy. Utilize induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology to create disease-in-a-dish models for high-throughput screening. Perform sophisticated transcriptomic data analysis (e.g., RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq) to identify novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Prepare high-quality manuscripts for publication in international peer-reviewed journals. Assist in the supervision of postgraduate students and junior research staff. Requirements A Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or a related field. Strong hands-on experience in gene editing and animal model handling. Proficiency in bioinformatics tools for transcriptomic data analysis is highly preferred. A solid publication record in reputable international journals. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Experience in musculoskeletal research or bone biology will be considered an advantage.
