The Higher Educational School for Girls was founded in 1964 and began with just 90 students. It became a state-run university in 1976, with four faculties: basic sciences, literature and humanities, management and economics.
Following the Islamic Revolution of Iran in 1979, it was renamed Alzahra University in honour of Fatimah Zahra, daughter of Mohammad (PBUH), the Holy Prophet of Islam.
It is the only comprehensive women’s university in Iran and the Middle East, with the motto of “Learned woman, progressive society”.
Students can choose from 51 undergraduate and 114 graduate programmes, with faculties including art, biological sciences, education and psychology, engineering and technology, literature and languages, mathematical sciences, physical education, physics and chemistry, social and economic sciences and theology.
Located in Vanak, Tehran there are two campuses, the first in the centre of Tehran and the second in Urmia, a 55-minute domestic flight from Tehran. On-campus facilities include laboratories, professional workshops, theatres, a swimming pool, restaurants, gyms, banks, a post office and a kindergarten.
It also has a Technology Incubator Centre to provide all the necessities for small companies and technological centres. Legal and professional aid is available to strengthen and guide these growing companies. All areas are covered, however there is a particular focus on nano technologies, bio-technology, art, IT, engineering and medical facilities and equipment.
As a member of the International Association of Universities (IAU) and the Federation of Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW), Alzahra has established links with more than 45 higher education institutions in the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

This position will drive innovation through academic expertise in liver studies and translational research. The appointee will foster interdisciplinary collaborations, deliver research-led education, and mentor early-career researchers, ensuring King’s College London remains at the forefront of addressing contemporary healthcare challenges. The role will involve conducting and leading high-impact research aligned to the research themes of the Roger Williams Institute of Liver Studies (RW-ILS), while developing and maintaining an externally funded research programme. Core outputs will include: publishing high-quality research outputs in peer-reviewed journals, enhancing the Faculty’s research profile and supporting its Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission; fostering interdisciplinary collaborations within the Faculty and with external research groups, including national and international partners; providing research-led teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including the MBBS, MSc, and PGCert courses, ensuring alignment with the Faculty’s education strategy; supervising and mentoring PhD students and early-career researchers, promoting a culture of innovation, excellence, and academic development; contributing to the design and delivery of teaching modules; actively engaging in academic administration and committee work as required, contributing to the Faculty’s strategic and operational goals. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project, where you will be part of the research team to develop solutions for adapting CCS2 chargers for marine electrical vessels and optimizing DC fast charging technology for marine applications. As a Research Engineer (Electrical Engineering – Marine EV Charging & DC Fast Charging), you will be part of a dynamic team working on cutting-edge research and industry projects. You will: Participate in and manage the research project with the Principal Investigator (PI), and industrial partner to ensure all project deliverables are met. Develop and implement solutions for adapting CCS2 chargers to marine electric vessel applications. Design experiments for testing and analyze DC fast charging for high power marine EVs and assess communication integrity at various operating conditions. Test interoperability of charger with marine EVs and ensure compliance with EV charging communication protocols (e.g., ISO 15118, DIN 70121). Conduct EMI noise analysis and mitigation for high-power DC charging systems. Develop and troubleshoot embedded hardware and software for charger communication and control. Work on energy storage integration for marine charging infrastructure. Collaborate with industry partners and regulatory bodies on marine charging standards and DC fast charging protocols. Support knowledge transfer, prototype development, and system integration. Carry out Risk Assessment and ensure compliance with Work, Safety, and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaise with vendors/suppliers to support project needs. Work independently, as well as within a team, to drive research and development efforts Job Requirements Degree/Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related fields. Strong knowledge of DC fast charging, energy storage systems, charger communication standards, and power electronics. Experience in charger communication protocols (e.g., CAN, PLC, Modbus, IEC61851).
