Khon Kaen University is regarded as the one of Thailand’s top research universities.

Founded in 1964 near the city of Khon Kaen, it was initially set up as an institute of technology  to further the study of engineering and agriculture and was later named the University of North East Thailand.

It renamed Khon Kaen University – known as KKU – and was appointed one of Thailand’s nine national research universities in 2010, in addition to its work as a major educational centre in the Mekong region.

With more than 40,000 students, including 10,000 postgraduates and 500 overseas students, across around 350 study programmes on its main campus, KKU also has around 2,200 academic staff and 8,500 support staff.

One of KKU’s main strategic goals is to be recognized both internationally and regionally as a leading university in research.

Among the areas in which outstanding research takes place at KKU is in medicine, public Health and tropical medicine, with its Tropical Disease Research Laboratory gaining widespread acclaim.

It also excels in its historic research strength of agriculture, with studies focusing on tropical farming systems in both animal and plant science. Work on the bio-diversity in the Mekong River basin, as well as business and tourism in this area, has also been recognised.

In line with the goal to develop the university’s research, it has now has a total of 25 research centres of excellence and research specialist groups, based around six research themes: health problems, food products and food for health, water management, improving literacy and numeracy, biofuels and advanced materials.

In addition, the university has partnerships with more than 160 national and international research organizations from 25 countries.

There are also exchange programs for KKU students, personnel, provided with full equipment, knowledge, labs and other kinds of bodies of knowledge.

Job Description:  We are seeking a highly motivated Research Engineer to join our team for a fixed-term project. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and validating objective texture testing methods that can accurately categorize foods within the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) framework, with a specific focus on Level 5 (Minced & Moist). This role will involve designing custom test fixtures, conducting practical laboratory work, and performing data analysis to create a robust and reliable testing protocol. Key Responsbilities: Conduct a comprehensive literature review on food rheology, texture analysis, particle analysis, image analysis and the IDDSI framework. Design and execute experiments to develop new instrumental texture analysis methods suitable for IDDSI Level 5 foods. Validate new methods against existing standards and a sensory panel to ensure accuracy and clinical relevance. Collect, analyze, and interpret data from instrumental and sensory evaluations. Document all experimental procedures, findings, and analyses in technical reports and prepare presentations to industry stakeholders and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Collaborate with a research team, including food scientists, clinicians, and engineers, to ensure the developed methods are practical and clinically relevant. Job Requirements: A degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. A Master's or Ph.D. in a related research field is advantageous. Experience with instrumental texture, image analysis and particle sizing techniques (e.g., texture analyzers, universal testing machines) is highly desirable. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in material characterization techniques, such as stress-strain characterization. Proficiency in analysis software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, R, or other statistical software). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. About Us GKT School of Medical Education undertakes a significant – and growing - amount of educational partnership activity within the UK and overseas. Examples of this include the University of Portsmouth Branch Campus (work led by the MBBS Branch Campus Programme Director), and Consultancy and Capacity building work with Abdullah-Al-Salem University in Kuwait. About the role To support these and future ventures, we are now seeking a senior clinical medical educationalist with experience of partnership working, developing new UK programmes and understanding of the GKT approach to medical education. The successful candidate will work with new and existing partners to ensure high quality education, engaging meaningfully with GKT Directors to align processes and GKT approaches as needed and drawing upon additional expertise such as that in Faculty Development. The postholder will work closely with Faculty Education Services (FES) and university colleagues to ensure effective and timely implementation of partnership arrangements. While the focus of the work will be in the development of partnership educational programmes, the arc of projects of this sort will usually involve influence in business development and as projects evolve into business as usual.
