Who's in, who's out?

Clinical trials that could lead to the repair of spinal-cord injuries are scheduled to begin within three years at University College London, with the arrival of an internationally renowned research team. Geoff Raisman , the first director of the new Spinal Repair Unit, joined UCL on October 1 along with his team from the National Institute for Medical Research. Their work offers hope for patients with spinal injuries.

Ian Jacobs , one of the UK's leading academic gynaecological oncologists, has joined UCL to set up an Institute of Women's Health.

Yvo Desmedt , chair of information communication technology. Formerly of Florida State University in the US.

Lee Grieveson , lecturer in film studies. Previously at King's College London.

OUT

Jay Gottfried , an expert on smell and the brain, Institute of Neurology.Now at the Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease Center, Northwestern University in the US.

Andreas Bartels , an expert in the neurobiology of love, Institute of Neurology. Moved to Max-Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, Germany.

John Sutherland , Lord Northcliffe professor of modern English literature. Retired.
