Wanted: MBA faculty who don't have a fear of flying

October 28, 2005

Most people will have heard of flying doctors but Luton University is looking to recruit flying faculty. The academics will join the university's Business School to deliver MBAs to students around the world. Four of the "flying" posts are advertised by Luton in this week's Times Higher .

With an airport on its doorstep, Luton is well placed to dispatch academics to deliver three-day intensive programmes to overseas MBA students in destinations such as India, Malaysia, Oman, Germany, Singapore, Poland and Russia.

Staff will enjoy free flights and hotel accommodation and it is expected that some will extend their trips into a vacation. Paul Burns, dean of the Business School, said: "Of course, we won't be paying for anyone's holiday."

The jobs are key to Luton's plans to increase the number of its MBA students from 400 to 1,000 in the next two years. Professor Burns said that the university also had to replace academics poached by other universities as part of the build-up to the 2008 research assessment exercise.

The advert also offers posts in the department of tourism, leisure and human resource management and the department of law, accounting and strategy.
