Alison Richard, Cambridge University's vice-chancellor elect, is recovering from a riding accident. Professor Richard, provost of Yale University, had her spleen removed after falling from a horse while on holiday in New Mexico. Current vice-chancellor Sir Alec Broers said she was expected to make a full recovery, overturning reports in the student newspaper Varsity that she had been paralysed and would be unable to take up the post.
