Student grants for young people in care
Cumbria County Council is to give grants to young people in care who want to go to university or college. Four new and four existing higher education students from around the county will receive about £2,000 to help with living costs. The local authority said it did not want the fear of debt to deter youngsters in care from going into higher education.

Dinosaur footprints on Isle of Skye
Glasgow University fossil experts are making moulds of 16 dinosaur footprints on a beach on the Isle of Skye. Around 165 million years old and up to 50 cm long, the footprints are the youngest and largest of dinosaurs in Scotland and are being eroded by the tide.

Building starts on £1.3m coastal research centre
As world leaders debate sustainable development, Ulster University has laid the foundation stone of a £1.3 million centre in coastal research to investigate climate change, coastal management and maritime archaeology. It will allow researchers to collaborate at European and international level, backed by the most advanced technology in the field.
