Pressure too much for sixth formers
Sixth formers are feeling so stressed by the demands of AS levels that they are dropping out of school altogether, the National Association of Head Teachers meeting in Torquay warned today, jeopardising the government’s target of half of all young people under 30 going to university by 2010. Surrey headteacher Clarissa Williams said: "Students are dropping out because of the pressure."
Aitken to give Oxford chaplaincy lecture
Disgraced former MP Jonathan Aitken is to give the Oxford Brookes University annual chaplaincy lecture on Monday, entitled "In power, in prison, in prayer" on Monday, June 10. Mr Aitken, jailed in 1999 for perverting the course of justice and perjury, is studying theology at Oxford University’s Wycliffe Hall.
