A £180,000 software laboratory for "spatial informatics" was launched by the University of York this week. It will be used by academics to map and visualise questions that have a spatial dimension, such as where people come from, where they live, and where they shop and travel. The laboratory, in Wentworth College, was funded by a grant from the Science Research Investment Fund, which is administered by the funding council.
