Kevin Dunion, the new rector of the University of St Andrews, faced his first big challenge in the role at his installation ceremony - deciding how to get there. Each rector has to choose a fresh and innovative method of arrival at the Rectorial Drag, a tour of the town followed by students and student societies. Past incumbents have arrived on horseback, sailed into St Andrews Harbour and even been delivered in a sack by a Post Office van. But Mr Dunion paid homage to his family history by pedalling a traditional ice-cream tricycle to the event, in memory of his grandparents' ice-cream business. His formal installation took place the following day.
