A £50 million project will establish a direct link between the University of St Andrews and a local secondary school. A new building for Madras College will be constructed on university land, and in return St Andrews will take ownership of the school's existing historic building. In future, the university's students could share library, canteen and assembly hall space with Madras' pupils. St Andrews will also develop a sports facility that will be shared by the school and the university. Lecturers will visit Madras as part of the deal, and its pupils will be encouraged to drop by the university to garner insights into student life.
