A member of the Students Union Council at the University of Sheffield has resigned after he was identified as a member of the British National Party. The council voted for a referendum to allow students to decide whether the council member could continue to represent them following the discovery that his name was among those on a leaked BNP membership list posted on the internet. However, the council member resigned in advance of the poll. Fiona Edwards, the women's officer, said that students had "succeeded in their campaign" to remove the representative.
