Electronic engineering students may soon be learning the tools of their trade in cyberspace thanks to a researcher at the University of Portsmouth. Ifeyinwa Chika, a PhD student in the department of electronic and computer engineering, is creating a program that will replace an entire electronics workbench with a virtual laboratory learning environment. The software will allow students to construct and simulate electronic circuits in a realistic way. Students can access the program from any computer with an internet connection. Ms Chika said the program will especially benefit students in countries where large classes and inadequate funding often mean that access to equipment is restricted.
