Students whose parents are staff at the University of Northampton will receive £250 a year if they join the university as undergraduates in the next academic year. Registrar Jane Bunce said the annual bursary was part of a staff benefits package and was not aimed at boosting recruitment to the university. "We are anticipating that there will be few students whose parents are staff here; it won't affect recruitment," she said. The payments are not made out of tuition fees collected from other students she added, but from other university income. Northampton already gives members of staff taking courses at the university a discount of up to 50 per cent on fees.
