Scientists have created the first robotic fish that shoals accept as one of their own. Researchers at the University of Leeds have developed the plaster-cast model of a stickleback to help them study fish behaviour and group dynamics. The scientists are able to influence group behaviour by moving Robofish more quickly and decisively than the other fish, which encourages them to follow it. Experiments have shown that a fish's ability to influence the shoal does not depend on how tightly bunched its members are, as previously thought.
