A research unit looking at the impact of fat on the development of disease is to be established at the UHI Millennium Institute. The centre at the prospective University of the Highlands and Islands will work with research partners across the UK, Europe and the US to consider new ways to measure fat molecules in blood and tissue and detect changes in the levels of certain types of fat. Funding of £2.3 million has been secured from Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the European Regional Development Fund and the Scottish Funding Council.
