Small firms in London are bearing the brunt of the economic downturn and have been more badly affected than their counterparts in the North East, according to research by The Open University's Business School. Its Quarterly Survey of Small Business in Britain found small firms have been hardest hit, but medium-sized firms with more than 50 employees are holding up.
