The culture of science

December 15, 2003

Brussels, 12 Dec 2003

A discussion of science from a cultural perspective is being organised by the Royal Institute of Great Britain, to take place on 29 January in London, UK.

The event will look at how science and scientists are represented in different cultural strands, from white coats and wild hair to the slick corporate imagery used in business.

Leading speakers will explore how scientific companies or institutes use science to endorse and sell their products, through such means as their logos, their advertising and the design of their websites. They will also examine the role of scientific illustration in the presentation of ideas and, inversely, the role of scientific ideas in contemporary art practice.
