David Robinson, the new English vice chancellor of Australia's Monash University, is a keen sports fan. He has told journalists the best place to find him for an off-the-record interview at any time would be at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

But he was quick to add that even while watching cricket he would still be mulling over the problems that were a daily fact of life for a university vice chancellor.
