Queen Margaret University - Two-tongue test

An £80,000 grant from the Economic and Social Research Council is to fund a study of the use of language by bilingual people. The study at Queen Margaret University will look at differences in pronunciation among people who speak both English and German. It aims to shed light on whether or not bilingual people keep their languages separate by using their articulators differently in each language. It is hoped that the 20-month project, led by Sonia Schaeffler, will disclose the principles of language-specific speech production and provide foundations for further research into articulatory settings.
