Pulse on the prize

Two British-led research groups this week received €200,000 (£135,500) shares of the €1 million Descartes Research Prize from European Research Commissioner Janez Potocnik. The Pulse team, led by Andrew Lyne at Manchester University's Jodrell Bank Observatory, and the European Social Survey, led by Roger Jowell of City University, were two of five laureates chosen from a field of 85 entries.
