Out of the frying pan...

Bob Fryer, director of the University of Southampton New College and a firm believer in lifelong learning, cooked up a storm last week. Living up to his name, he became college catering manager for a day.

His dodgiest moment was when the real catering manager, Gina Hodge, who had swapped jobs with him, sent the canteen an urgent order for a slap-up lunch in the director's office.
