Sir Roderick Floud has been appointed dean of the School of Advanced Study at the University of London. He replaces Nicholas Mann, who retired at the end of July. Professor Sir Roderick is a former University of London professor and provost of the former London Guildhall University and an ex-president of Universities UK.

Simon Hodgson has been appointed Teesside University's dean of the School of Science and Technology. He joined the university last year as assistant dean for research after a career in industry.

David Hayward has been appointed the new head of the department of art at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Margaret Smith , director of nursing for Glasgow/Clyde Acute Services, has been appointed dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Dundee University. One of Scotland's most senior nursing leaders, she will take up the post at the end of November.

Will Bridge has been appointed the University of the Arts London's first deputy rector. Dr Bridge is the current head of London College of Communication, one of University of the Arts London's six constituent colleges. Dr Bridge will oversee a multimillion-pound development project at King's Cross. The plan could see Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design move to a new home.

Stephen Smith has been appointed lead nurse in the Napier University-NHS Lothian leadership in compassionate care project.
