The University of the West of England has appointed Ian Apperley, formerly adviser to Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, and the London Assembly, as its new human resources director.

Ka Ho Mok, professor of East Asian studies at Bristol University, has been named associate dean (education) at the University of Hong Kong.

Northampton University has appointed Kishwer Falkner, Baroness Falkner of Mar­gra­vine, its inaugural chancellor. Lady Falkner was a political researcher and director of policy for the Liberal Democrats. She then worked in the political affairs division of the Commonwealth Secretariat and most recently as chief executive of Students Partnership Worldwide.

Anglia Ruskin University has named Katie Proven business development marketing manager. She had held a similar role at
VisitScotland.

David Skinner has been named director of music at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. He has previously served as academic adviser and music editor to a number of vocal ensembles including the Hilliard Ensemble. 

The IFS School of Finance has appointed Martin Day to the new post of director of higher education and executive development. He was most recently director of international business at Henley Management College.
