* Oxford University has appointed: Marta Kwiatkowska , professor of computer science at Birmingham University, to the chair of computing systems and a fellowship of Trinity College from July; Leslie Green , professor of law and philosophy at York University in Toronto, professor of the philosophy of law; Craig Clunas , professor of Chinese at East Asian Art and the School of Oriental and African Studies, professor of the history of art; and Anthony James Venables , chief economist at the Department for International Development and professor of international economics at London School of Economics, professor of economics.

* Glasgow Caledonian University has appointed Colin McCallum , chief executive of the strategic fundraising management consulting firm Grenzebach Glier Europe Ltd, director of development and vice-president of the GCU Foundation.

* Cambridge University has appointed Bruce Ponder , director of the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Research Institute, Li Ka Shing professorship of oncology.
