* Westminster University has appointed Trevor Morris visiting professor of public relations. He is former chief executive officer of Chime Communications Public Relations.

* Gavin Reid , an economics professor at St Andrews University, has been appointed president of the Institute of Contemporary Scotland, which stimulates discussion of social, economic and cultural issues facing Scotland.

* Robin Harper , MSP and co-convener of the Scottish Green Party, has been installed as rector of Aberdeen University.

* Linden Peach , former professor at Gloucestershire University, has been appointeddean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Northumbria University.

* Henley Management College has appointed Moira Clark professor of strategic marketing in the School of Reputation and Relationship Management. She was formerly at Cranfield School of Management.

* Roger Watson , professor of nursing at Hull University, has been appointed head elect of the Graduate School of Nursing at Sheffield University.

* Edinburgh University Management School has appointed Richard Taffler the first Martin Currie professor in finance and investment. Professor Taffler was at Cranfield School of Management.

* Peter Williams , chief executive of the Quality Assurance Agency, has been elected president of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education.
