* City University London has appointed the following: Chris Gethin , former director of corporate partnerships at the Royal National Institute for Deaf People, director of development; Sue Gunn , former director of strategic business partnerships at Hertfordshire University, director of the Centre for Innovation and Knowledge Transfer; and Fiona Strongman , former marketing manager for the Lawn Tennis Association and Britvic Soft Drinks, director of marketing and recruitment.

* Falconer Mitchell , professor of management accounting at Edinburgh University, will chair the research board of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants; and David Dugdale , professor of management accounting at Bristol University, has been appointed vice-chair.

* Stephen Mobbs , professor of atmospheric dynamics and head of the School of Earth and Environment at Leeds University, has been appointed director of the Natural Environment Research Council Centres for Atmospheric Science. He will take up the role on July 1.

* Bolton University has named Karyn Brinkley pro vice-chancellor, strategic planning and communications. Her former role was director of external relations at Griffith University, Queensland, Australia.

* Coventry University's director of sport, Vince Mayne , has been elected chair of the UK's University and College Sport, the national association for staff in higher and further education sports departments.

* Alex MacLennan , principal and chief executive of Ayr College, has been named principal and chief executive of Bell College, effective July 1.
