Academics are kicking off the 2010 Fifa World Cup with a dedicated website complete with blogs, video interviews and a downloadable wall chart. The initiative, by Nottingham Trent University, will feature academics - depicted in football sticker-style photos - writing about football-related issues such as the apparent dearth of gay footballers and the psychological impact of sporting success and failure. The scholars will also be available to react to issues that arise during the tournament. The site, www.ntu.ac.uk/worldcup, aims to boost awareness of the university's research "in a modern, reactive and interesting way".
