The Spanish government has appointed physicist Rolf Tarrach head of the Spanish research council, CSIC. Tarrach, a distinguished scientist and specialist in quantum field and elemental particle theory, is professor of theoretical physics at the University of Barcelona. He is also an outspoken critic of the current system for appointing lecturers and researchers, which many believe is plagued by favouritism and corruption.
