The European University Association (EUA) has launched a new pilot project on doctoral programmes funded by DGs Research and Education and Culture.
The aim of the project is to help European universities improve the quality of doctoral programmes and increase the number of European researchers by 700,000 within six years.
The project will focus on identifying the necessary conditions for successful European doctoral programmes and promoting the development of joint doctoral programmes at European level.
A steering committee will be responsible for supervising the progress, and in January 2005, a conference in Salzburg, Austria, will bring together all major stakeholders to discuss the results and integrate them in future European doctoral programmes.
