Eight universities in East Africa have established a centre for human capacity-building to train high-level manpower for the universities. The centre, at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, is mainly for lecturers who want to study for masters and PhD degrees. It should improve the quality of academic staff at the universities of Nairobi, Moi, Kenyatta, Egerton, and JKAT in Kenya; Makerere in Uganda; Dar es Salaam and Sokoine in Tanzania.
