Memorial to principal

Stirling University has commemorated its former principal, Colin Bell, who died suddenly a year ago, by naming a new building after him to boost research in applied social science.

Christine Hallett, principal, said it was a fitting memorial to Professor Bell, who was a distinguished sociologist and inspirational principal. Staff from the sociology department's sections, which include social work, housing policy and practice, and sociology, social policy and criminology, have been housed randomly throughout the new building with the aim of stimulating more cross-disciplinary research.
