Lund University faces cuts of 79 million kroner (Pounds 5.94 million) as a result of the Swedish government's 1999 finance bill. Between 60 and 80 staff and 1,100 student places in arts, theology and social science will be cut. The schools of engineering studies at Malmo, educational studies and the dental school, also at Lund, will no longer form part of the university.
