Pay set to rise for public sector workers
Public sector workers are set to receive "substantial" pay increases this year as part of a drive to boost recruitment, according to a report today. Many workers in public services have been paid bigger rises than other employees over the past year, and the trend is likely to continue, said pay analysts Incomes Data Services (IDS).

People who eat a high-fibre diet are happier and have more energy than those who do not, Cardiff University scientists claimed today. A study of the effect of high-fibre breakfast cereals on fatigue shows an association between fibre and mental health, researchers said.

Heart risk measured with new technique
Edinburgh University scientists have created a technique to identify an individual's risk of heart problems by measuring the health of their blood vessels. The clinical pharmacologists believe their new pulse wave analysis system could become a standard test within ten years.
